Black Block: An experimental modular typeface
-
Started life in November '07 as an experiment, and carries on to this day...
Can you make a typeface from one 'part' (module), and if you can, how legible is it?
-
Exploring this idea further, and with obvious homage to AC/DC's 'Back in Black', the packaging and poster series was born.
-
Currently working on the 'Block & Roll' poster series, some of which can be seen here. The idea behind this is quite simple: type specimen sheets (posters) that display lyrics from bands that have defined rock music since the 1960s, utilising both the numbers and uppercase characters of the typeface.
-
In the series so far we have:
The Stooges: I Wanna Be Your Dog
AC/DC: Hell Aint A Bad Place To Be
Deep Purple: Speed King
Motorhead: Don't Let 'Em (Grind Ya Down)
Discharge: Cries of Help
Pink Floyd: Careful With That Axe Eugene
